Fall restaurant week is almost upon us and I can hear the clinking of forks and knives in celebration. Restaurant week is the perfect opportunity to go eat with friends, try out the food and get a good feel for what the restaurant has to offer at a reasonable price. The media got the chance to check out three different restaurants last week, two of which I had never dined at before. So here’s the scoop on a couple of places to hit up:
Little Cleo’s Seafood Legend is tucked into the space that contains The Yard, Barrio Urbano and Culinary Dropout. It features all kinds of fresh fish fare from oysters to warm truffle butter jars with crab. We sampled almost the entire Restaurant week menu from the crispy frog legs to the grilled octopus.Next stop for Ollie the Trolley was Ticoz Latin Restaurant just a few short minutes from our first stop. The Blue Corn Enchiladas were my favorite filled with shredded chicken and smothered with green chile, three cheese blend, sour cream green chile sauce and paired with rice and grilled zucchini. But that’s not all that we tasted, we got to sample the Paella with chicken, shrimp, calamari, black mussels, Schriner’s linguica sausage, saffron broth, rice, tomato and peas. Also the Pork Chile Verde Mac n’ Cheese with creamy jack cheese sauce, big chunks of pork chile verde, tomato and cilantro.
Dessert was our last stop and Southern Rail took care of my sweet tooth with trays full of butterscotch banana pudding and a layer of almond crumble paired with ginger snap cookies a creamy brown sugar sweet potato tart with flaky toasted coconut macaroon and a black forest cake “push-up” – amarena cherry chocolate mousse and decadent chocolate cake.
