World of Beer started out as just a bar only serving drinks, and slowly introduced appetizers, and has grown to offering a full menu. They serve traditional tavern fare that pairs well with over 61 craft beer options on tap. Looking for a specific beer or have a favorite? They have an app that will tell you what’s currently on tap. We recently got to try out some craft beer paired with their top menu picks.First up was the German Pretzel, served with house made ground mustard and cheddar cheese imported from Wisconsin. This giant pretzel was the perfect combination of a soft inside with a slight crisp outside, and paired just right with the Diamond Down beer.
Next was the Sausage Board featuring jalapeno cheddar sausage, cracked pepper sausage and hickory smoked sausage. This paired well with their Hava Blue beer which had hints of vanilla and fresh blueberry.A lighter option was up next, the margherita flatbread with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella on a basil and pine nut pesto, topped with arugula and drizzled with a balsamic glaze. The sweet balsamic glaze set this flatbread apart and was paired with the Pilsner Urquell. (There are 3 different ways a Pilsner can be poured, changing the taste of the beer, and WOB is one of two bars in Arizona that offers different pours.) Don’t forget to ask your server all about this, so they can fill you in on the details. For our entrée we noshed on the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich, a grilled chicken breast covered in bacon, Swiss cheese and chipotle sauce served on a soft brioche bun. The sandwich worked nice with the Tangier IPA that contained hints of tangerine, and had a smooth taste because of the malt. IPA’s pair well with spicy food but sometimes have a more hoppy taste.
We ended the evening with Caramel Apple Rings, the sweet combination of deep fried goodness and caramel apples, topped with powdered sugar. This paired excellent with the Woodchuck Gumption, a cider with a clean apple green crispness flavor.
World of Beer has something for everyone, including anyone who usually shy’s away from your typical beer.
