Luci’s Healthy Marketplace is so much more than just that. Somewhere beyond the words healthy and marketplace, finds a welcoming, warm and neighborhood home to some of the best tasting brunch items I have had in Arizona, in long time.
Being from a big city like New York, it has been a tough road scoping out the gems of the desert, that have mastered the preparation of great tasting food, but also those whose quality and selection of ingredients are superior, which are also backed by an exciting menu.
When you enter the marketplace, behold a vision of just that… a friendly, busy, food market, with a retro ambiance, lined with refrigerator doors on one side of the perimeter, filled with grocery brands that seem to fuse Whole Foods market with a East Coast kosher restaurant, with a prominent showcase of local brands and products. Within the space, the bustling open-air kitchen showcases chefs flipping fluffy pancakes and plating colorful salads, an organic coffee bar behind cases of yummy baked goods like east coast-style black and white cookies and jumbo bagels, and tons and tons of happy eaters, amongst cozy tables. A jammed-packed Sunday turnout, for sure.
So hard to decide between the Funky Monkey French Toast; thick slices of cinnamon pull apart bread, pan-sizzled to a golden brown, with real butter and maple syrup or the Burrito Bomb, which was my server’s recommendation, who promised I would not be let down. Let Down? I was jumping for joy in my tummy with each and every bite… A super-soft. sun dried tomato tortilla, surrounding layers and layers of heaven… seriously! Think fresh egg whites (trainer girl mentality!), homemade chicken chorizo, country spuds, which are literally pillows of fresh potatoes with varying flavors and colors of orange, blue and purple, and fresh avocado slices. Luci’s homemade red salsa took this sweet and savory brunching experience to a place I thought it could go no further… it was truly insane and I seriously dream about going back to melt my teeth into that burrito again!
Luci’s Famous All Natural Burger also made its way to our table… the shiny, fluffy, brioche roll outside the perfectly grilled Niman Ranch patty smelled, looked and tasted incredible and there was no way we could leave Luci’s without trying their flapjacks. Hands down, the best pancakes I’ve had in Arizona and I have been living here for 10 years! Think fat and fluffy, crispy on the outside, as they should be, delivered piping hot to our table. Ours were plain with real maple syrup, but don’t be shy ordering yours with bananas, pecans, blueberries or caramelized apples on top.
East Coast-style food, fused with a fresh, natural flare, has finally been discovered and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share this gem with my fellow food devotees. Such a great destination that seems to bring a touch of community and love to a somewhat new city to many. Luci’s Healthy Marketplace is open 7 days a week, with an all-day breakfast menu and all-day sandwich and such offerings. They even offer cooking classes, catering, support gluten-free diets and have special event lineups such as Taco Tuesday’s and Happy Hour’s.
