I don’t ask for much on my birthday, just a trip to NYC and a special dessert the day of. When it was time to decide where to go this year, I felt a visit to see Chef Justin Beckett at Beckett’s Table was in order. The atmosphere is so inviting, the food is comforting and I’ve never been disappointed when I’ve eaten there. We headed over there late, for us, at around 9pm because we wanted to put the little one to bed first. We only thought he was sleeping, turns out he played with the babysitter until we returned home at 10:30pm.
During that blissful hour and a half free of child, we drove over to Beckett’s Table for some dessert and decaf. When we arrived, the place was still full of people enjoying their Friday night meal. I would have loved to have had some Pork Osso Bucco Confit, meat falling off the bone, spnach pancetta spaetzle to go with it! My husband wanted more than dessert, so he ordered the deep fried deviled eggs. My favorite appetizers, if they are available, are the grilled cheese (who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese sandwich), the mac ‘n’ cheese (can you tell I love things covered with melty cheese) and the brussels sprouts (I eat brussels sprouts at least once a week).
After indulging in some fried spicy deviled eggs, we ordered the award winning fig and pecan pie. I must also recommend the chocolate dipped bacon s’mores because it is out of this world. We sipped our decaf and watched as our pie came out adorned with a little candle. After making a wish for more pie to come out, we dug in. That huge scoop of ice cream was fantastic, full of cream cheese flavor mixed with citrus, genius! The combination of the pie and ice cream went together deliciously. It was a great way to celebrate the last remaining hours of my birthday. Just in case you were wondering, I found out that night that I will never have decaf coffee again before bed. I fell asleep at 3am and our little guy decided to wake up at 5am. Good to know I can still party hard all night long at 31!!!
