Burger Theory, located in Phoenix, conveniently on the corner of 44th St. and McDowell, has just unveiled their new menu with a spicy and unexpected twist. Lucky for me, I got to go test taste a few of their items to report back to all you foodie lovers out there. And I have to say, I’ve got good news. Not only is their décor clean, attractive, and on trend, but their staff is extremely friendly, even those who were not serving us, stopping by to make sure we had everything we needed, and wishing us well on our way out.
To start we decided to go with their best selling appetizer, the Firecracker Shrimp; lightly fried jumbo shrimp topped with a sweet red chili sauce. And when they say lightly fried, they aren’t kidding. This dish was so light and flavorful, a far cry from your standard fried shrimp dish, which can often times be a 3 to 1 ratio of batter to shrimp.
For our main courses, we decided to try out their new On the Border Burger and their Spicy Chicken Wrap. But let’s start out with their burgers. All of their burgers comes served atop a potato bun or lettuce wrap, with a choice of cole slaw of French fries as your side. But the star of the show is their delicious blend of Angus chuck, brisket, and short rib beef patties. And as they warned us, meant to be a little messy as they are 29% fat (hello, FLAVOR!). The On the Border burger was topped with pepperjack cheese, pico de gallo, grilled onion, guacamole, lettuce, and KGB barbecue sauce. I can honestly say that I would come back here solely for the burger. It was that good. Not too messy when it came down to it, and all of the flavors were on point.
Their Spicy Chicken Wrap is also a great addition to their menu. A flour tortilla, filled with crispy chicken tenders, buffalo sauce, lettuce, tomato, and bleu cheese, I couldn’t get enough of the simplicity of it, but also how bold the flavors of the sauce, and perfectly cooked chicken came through. They also do not skimp out on the amount of chicken in the wrap. Plus, the season fries were a hit and found myself still picking at them even after I was full.
Speaking of full, somewhere in my body I made room for dessert. Because; dessert. There’s nothing mini about the flavor that comes from their mini mason jar desserts. For $5 you get your choice from a few different flavors. We went Apple Crumb and didn’t look back. A crispy crumble at the bottom of the jar, topped with apple pie filling, and the largest single scoop of vanilla ice cream I have ever seen. It was beautiful. But not too beautiful not to devour.
There’s something special about Burger Theory. It’s no frills, not over the top, but definitely understated with the fact that their service, cleanliness, and most importantly, their food were all exceptional. So if you haven’t tried it out, make sure to make your next burger night at Burger Theory in Phoenix.
