High Street has changed so much from when I use to frequent the area. The place is now filled with shops and restaurants and Cowboy Saloon has created a space for Country Music lovers to gather, after taking the place of the old Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar location. The space is large and perfect for dancing, listening to one of the live bands or if you’re like me, eating and drinking. Cowboy Saloon originated in Florida and they are planning to expand to Peoria soon. We had a chance to meet and chat with Chef Greg, who took us through the menu and started us off with a dish that was recently featured in USA Today in an article about Classic Southern Dishes with a Twist.
The dish was something that I might not have ordered but that’s what I love about the Chef taking the reigns. We ended up talking to another table that wanted to know what they should order next time and we let them know, they should be ordering the cripsy fried green caprese with smoked mozz, fresh basil, balsamic vinagrette and balsamic reduction.
Chicken & waffle sliders with cowboy’s thick bacon, made to order waffles and warm syrup are exactly what you would expect and want. Thick pieces of fried chicken round out this comfort food dish and make it a great shareable plate.
This was one of my favorite dishes! Outlaw killer shrimp with golden brown roc shrimp, spicy mayo sauce, shredded lettuce, scallions and lime dipping sauce. It was lightly breaded but perfectly crisp and the lime dipping sauce paired nicely.
The Longhorn burger with a half pound patty, thick cowboy bacon, cheddar, caramelized onion, lettuce, tomato, fried egg, bourban bbq sauce was cooked to a medium rare and the meat was tender and bursting with flavor. I would assume from this burger that you could choose any on their menu and be satisfied!
The last dish that Chef Greg sent out was the Cowboy’s chicken bacon club with thick cut brioche bread, grilled chicken, thick cut bacon, dijon mayo, provolone cheese, lettuce and tomato. Not only do they have a great menu to choose from and a fabulous happy hour, they also have plenty of beers and cocktails. Next time you get a hankering to enjoy some boot-scooting action or ride the mechanical bull, head on up to High Street.
