Our writer Traci was able to get a first hand experience of what Decantur has to offer at the opening last month and this is what she had to say. “At the grand opening, Decantur encompassed a light and relaxing vibe. With live-music and an all-welcoming staff, it makes for the perfect place to unwind after a long day. They also have the perfect foods to match any wine you could possibly want! From delectable cheese platters with prosciutto and peppered salami – to fresh bread with pesto and hummus – you are guaranteed a refreshing experience.”
Next week, Decantur—The Winery at DC Ranch will celebrate its Grand Opening on Thursday, March 10 at 5 p.m. at DC Ranch Crossing (same plaza as AJ’s Fine Foods) just seconds north of the 101 Loop on Pima Road and everyone 21+ is invited to attend. Party guests will sip varietals from 4 tasting stations—featuring 2 wines each, and enjoy a sampling of light, mouthwatering bites served up throughout the evening from the winery’s kitchen lead by Chef Billy Sims of Nine Degrees North Catering. There will also be live music by local artist, Joerdie, and a raffle featuring fantastic wine themed prizes. Tickets are $35per person or $60 per couple and are available for purchase on Eventbrite. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Horses Help, a local charity that provides therapeutic and recreational opportunities to those with special needs.
In the winery’s airy and comfortably stylish main tasting room, guests will be invited to pour, breathe, savor, and learn about the wide variety of high-quality wines crafted on site with grapes sourced from around the world. Guest will enjoy pairing the wines with the culinary delights available from the winery’s kitchen. An experience not to be missed, Decantur will also give guests the opportunity to make, bottle, and custom label their very own wine in the winery’s state-of-the-art fermentation and bottling rooms, located just off the main tasting room. The winery will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with live music every weekend.

A number of other benefits come with various levels of membership, such as VIP access to special events and discounts on custom bottling and day-to-day purchases. Seeking greater work-life balance, Decantur owners Bill and Debra McDermott moved to Arizona in 2012 from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., where both had established busy, successful careers as executives in Information Technology. Once settled into their new digs in the desert they felt a sense of greater tranquility, but one thing they both missed was the relaxed, socially inspiring atmosphere of the winery to which they belonged while living in Calif. So they decided to bring it with them—and Decantur was born.
