Looking for a fun group activity or great date night idea for this summer? Starting June 8th, Sassi and Executive Chef Christopher Nicosia presents their 4th annual Summer Cooking Series! Let Chef take you on an Italian escapade, no passport required! Guests can expect a 3-course Italian meal with wine pairings, printed recipes to take home, and a hands-on dining experience.
Sassi has been a prominent establishment in North Scottsdale, known for their classic Italian cuisine and gorgeous, romantic setting. Notably, the restaurant is the site for many private events and weddings throughout the year. However, Chef Nicosia especially enjoys their Summer Cooking Series as it offers him a chance to get out of the kitchen and have some fun meeting his regulars and those new to Sassi.
At a mini preview event I attended earlier this month, we had the chance to get our hands dirty helping Chef Nicosia make ricotta gnocchi with a wild mushroom ragu. Chef walked us through the process of rolling out the dough, offered ideas for variations such as adding spinach or beet pureé to the mix, and cooking up the wild mushroom sauce to toss with the gnocchi. We sipped on prosecco and noshed on warm olives and bread with the entrees were being prepared to serve.
For dessert, we observed Chef Nicosia make amaretti cookies from scratch to accompany a scoop of gelato they made in-house. As I learned, Sassi makes as much as they can in-house, from their bread and pasta to the sausage and gelato and sorbets. The freshness of their dishes are undeniable.
This summer’s cooking series will take guests through a tour of Italy. Each event will highlight a different region of Italy and the cuisine native to that area and all levels of cooking experience are welcome. The class schedule and menu thus far are:
