The Great Australian Bakery has opened their doors in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. And walking into the restaurant space and talking to Laurence Lindahl brought me back to one of my favorite trips to see my family out in Australia. That’s right, my mum is a Kiwi and her brother and their family all live in Wollongong. I always say, had I not been getting married the following month, I may not have returned to America. I really fell in love with the place and I dream of the day when we can return as a family and enjoy it again! But until then, I’ll have to get my fix from The Great Australian Bakery.
Another fun side note. I was a vegetarian too when I went over to Australia but when I saw the meat pies, I became a vegetarian no more. These meat pies at the bakery transported me back and the mince meat pie was one of my favorite and so were the fresh sausage rolls. Rose has his recipes down and his heart and soul is in this restaurant. We wish him nothing but success and the ability to make all of us a nonstop supply of meat pies. Please go say hi to him the next time you’re around and try a meat pie or three. You’ll probably run into a bunch of people from Australia in the shop, relishing over the fact that they now have a place to get their beloved pies from!
The restaurant is a quick serve counter style restaurant specializing in traditional Australian favorites. The menu consists of authentically made meat pies, old world style Australian pasties, deliciously fresh sausage rolls and tasty Australian style dessert pastries. The recipes come from the family recipes of Daniel Rose. Rose owns and operates a restaurant in Australia and flew here to the U.S. to personally teach those working at the restaurant how to make the meals.
Each menu item will be made fresh daily. The items will be placed into hot and cold display cases, so guests can walk in and see all of the delicious delicacies in front of them and pick the one that suits their appetite. The Great Australian Bakery will offer both traditional favorites as well as vegetarian options. The ingredients will be of the freshest and finest qualities, with the pastries also made in house from scratch. Passport Coffee Co. is providing the finest blend of coffee which will be brewed fresh and served from a specialty coffee station being built within the restaurant. The blend is some of the finest offered from the “land down under.”
“We are excited to bring to the valley a food experience unlike any others,” says Laurence Lindahl, founder of The Great Australian Bakery. “We hope to be an option for people looking for good food fast, that will not only look but taste authentic.”
