Last week I was invited to the reopening of the Kona Grill in Scottsdale at the Fashion Square Mall. I decided it was the perfect excuse for a night out and two of my girlfriends and I enjoyed food, drinks and the new atmosphere.
Here’s some background: I had been to this location before but to be honest I wasn’t that impressed and we never did return. When talking to other friends about the same location, I got similar feedback. This made me even more curious to see what the event would hold for us.
Last Thursday night we checked in to the event and walked through the doors to a brand new interior. Loud trendy music was pumping through the speakers and the space was totally vamped up. We went downstairs to grab some sushi and then found a table upstairs on the patio. We tried all kinds of sushi rolls and sashimi and while their sashimi was good, the sushi rolls weren’t anything to rave about. Flatbreads of all kinds, fantastic sliders and crispy wontons were being passed around. I enjoyed all of those items and I ate quite a few of each. After munching on all those appetizers, it was time for the main course. My favorite by far was the macadamia nut chicken – I will be back for this dish. It was to die for! If you go to the Kona Grill for nothing other than that dish, you will be happy you went. The desserts were ok too the brownie was probably the best out of the three that we tried. If you’re looking for a great drink spot with lots of opportunity to people watch, I recommend stopping by here too.
I would also like to say that all the staff on hand that night were a pleasure. I feel like it’s rare to have every single person working be that kind and helpful and we spoke with quite a few of them. If you’re looking for a trendy place with great drinks and food, you should definitely check out Kona Grill in Scottsdale. I think you’ll have a great time and you’ll love the food. You may even feel like getting up and dancing (we almost did).
