September is national whiskey month, the most popular spirit. We recently got to sample Ling & Louie’s whiskey month menu. Their menu is a blend of modern Asian meets American comfort.
You can’t talk about a whiskey menu, and not start with the cocktails. We tried the Irish Bubble cocktail, made with Jameson Irish Whiskey, yellow chartreuse, fresh lemon and honey, topped with sparkling wine. It was refreshing, and a great whiskey cocktail for those new to whiskey. We also tried the Louie’s Old Fashioned made with Maker’s Mark Bourbon, solerno blood orange liqeur, peychaud’s bitters, bar keep Chinese bitters. It’s your classic old fashioned, with a bit of a kick at the end.
For starters, they offer Jalapeño Hamachi Rolls, fresh Hamachi, jalapeno, avocado and cilantro topped with spicy whiskey-garlic sauce. They also offer Whiskey BBQ Flatbread topped with blackened chicken, bacon, bourbon BBQ sauce, red onions and cheddar-jack cheese.
Entrée offerings include Bourbon-Glazed Pork sliders with an apple slaw and wasabi-honey mustard. Sizzling Whiskey Scallops & Steak, wok’d with broccoli, mushrooms, onions and red peppers and Thai basil whiskey-infused soy. Our favorite was the pork sliders, and the crisp freshness of the apple slaw.
The final phase of the meal was dessert. It’s always good to leave room for some dessert, especially when it’s as delicious as Bourbon-Maple Crème Brulee topped with bourbon poached apples.
The whiskey menu is a well-balanced menu of spicy Asian favorites, and some twists on American classics.
