It’s Friday, which means most of you are staring at the clock waiting for the work day to be over and the weekend to begin. You’ll get ready to go out with friends or a loved one and enjoy a nice drink, dinner and maybe a movie. However, if you’re like me and you’ll be enjoying your loved ones at home, here’s your Friday local foodie inspiration, dessert edition!
Did you know that it was #nationalicecreamday last weekend? If you’re following me on Instagram, you for sure knew it was. Everyday during our hot summers is ice cream day as far as I’m concerned. So let’s celebrate again today and you can check out my celebration of it over on North Phoenix Mom’s Blog too, where I’m talking about Melt. You can never have enough ice cream, never!
So, coming to you from Tucson is the cutest little electric ice cream truck filled with Isabella’s Ice Cream. You get freshly picked ingredients mixed into creamy ice cream, everything from spicy chocolate to prickly pear cactus crunch to salted caramel pecan. This stuff is good and it feels good to support our local vendors when we’re eating at home too. At least I feel good about it. You get to know the back story of these people, they have dreams about creating something and they take action to make it a reality. That’s what creator, Dominic Johnson did with the support of his wife, Kristel. They created a Isabella’s Ice Cream and have broken into the market. You should head over to the store and pick up a few flavors.
This ice cream is simply delicious by itself but we loved making them into ice cream sandwiches with some local cookies from Aunt Abby’s in Scottsdale. We put got some Snickerdoodles and chocolate chip (both vegan) and added ice cream for a nice cool afternoon treat. If you head over to Aunt Abby’s store you can grab cookies, bars, brownies, macarons and so much more.
However, if you’re looking for a one stop shop for both these items, like I always am – I picked these up at Whole Foods Market in Paradise Valley. The cookies are in the bulk section over by the fish area now. Let me know if you decide to try them out and what you think. Have a local product you’d like me to give a shout out too?
