The Third Plate, deemed “funny, engaging and delicious” by the Chicago Tribune, draws from the history of American cuisine over the past two centuries and takes readers into the kitchens and fields revolutionizing the way we eat. With the emergence of the optimistic farm-to-table concept, Barber spent more than a decade investigating farming communities around the globe, looking for a true definition for ethical and delicious eating. He set out to unveil the dark secrets of the local food movement, and the damaging effects of even the best food and farming techniques on the environment and individual health.
