This summer, celebrate Negroni Week at Crudo, J&G Steakhouse, Windsor and more, and enjoy a true taste of classic Italian cocktail culture, all while supporting local charities. Hosted on June 1 – 7, 2015, Negroni Week is dedicated to celebrating this iconic cocktail that most trace back to Florence, Italy, when the Italian Count, Camillo Negroni decided he was craving something bold and refreshing. Inspired by the popular drink, the Americano (a mix of bitter Campari liquor, sweet Vermouth and carbonated soda water, served over ice), the Count asked the bartender at his favorite watering hole to substitute gin for the soda water to create a daring new cocktail. Traditionally garnished with an orange peel, the Negroni is now recognized worldwide for its distinctive bittersweet yet also and crisp and cooling flavor thanks to the herbaceous gin notes. In short, it’s the perfect summer cocktail.
And to celebrate, several Valley restaurants including Crudo, J&G Steakhouse and Windsor will be joining the more than 1,300 bars worldwide participating in Negroni Week. Simply swing by from June 1 – 7, order a Negroni cocktail and a portion of each sale will be donated to local charities, including Phoenix Children’s Hospital and C-Cap.
Sure, we’re a few weeks away, but gear up now by testing out your negroni making skills at home. Upward Projects beverage director Brent Karlicek shares his version of the negroni here:
