Perfect Pear Bistro recently opened its third valley location in Tempe, right by the ASU campus. Their first location opened three years ago and they’ve been serving up modern American cuisine with a twist to the Valley ever since. True to their name, they serve several pear dishes each is unique, full of flavor and very diverse. We never could have imaged all the ways you could use pears but we’re sure glad they did! From flatbread, salad, sandwiches, grilled cheese, pasta and dessert, there are pears all over the menu.
Even though all the items on the menu sounded mouthwatering, we decided to start with the Perfectly Peared Pita Flatbread served with pears, goat cheese, crispy bacon and toasted hazelnuts. The spiced pears with the goat cheese, bacon and hazelnuts were a new combination we really enjoyed. Next we sampled a menu favorite, Paco’s Pear Tacos. These are not your typical tacos, as they are served with chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, avocado and topped with a spicy pear pico. It was so fresh and packed full of flavor and reminded us of a chicken club sandwich in a taco.
When we read about the Autumn Leaves salad we were really excited to try it. It had roasted butternut squash, beets, crispy bacon, walnuts, quinoa and goat cheese tossed in cider vinaigrette. The roasted butternut was sweet and creamy, the beets were crunchy and the bacon added the perfect saltiness. Not everyone loves butternut squash, but this dish certainly is a great flavor mixture with it.
One of Perfect Pear Bistro’s top sellers is the Perfectly Grilled Cheese sandwich, so of course we couldn’t pass on the opportunity to see what all the buzz was about. Made with brie, four cheese blend, arugula and crispy bacon with a spiced pear bread, this grilled cheese did not disappoint! This was certainly not your typical grilled cheese, because it’s served on sweet bread, but pairs perfectly with the brie, peppery arugula and salty bacon. This makes the top of our list for favorite grilled cheeses ever!
Of course we also had to sample the dessert, which was Pear Cobbler. The pear cobbler was a great ending, as it wasn’t overpoweringly sweet, as many desserts can commonly be. Pear has a very mellow flavor that can be played up with spices and pair well with many different ingredients, which is what makes it such a diversifiable food.
We were really impressed by all the items we tried at Perfect Pear Bistro, and there are still many more on their menu we didn’t get to try, yet. We are adding this to a list of places to go again! To see more about Perfect Pear Bistro and their locations visit www.perfectpearbistro.com.
