As we walked into ROK Social House, we were greeted by Fran, sweet and passionate about her work. She quickly grabbed us some water as we squeezed into a comfy lounge booth big enough for two. There was music pumping and bottles of soju lining the wall. If you have never tried soju before, it’s crisp, refreshing and perfect for drinking casually. Soju is similar to a vodka but easier to drink and is about 40 proof, instead of the typical 80 proof for vodka.
We sipped on K-Town girl in order to get a feel for the sansachun, a delicious Korean wine and chatted some more with Fran. You could see how enthusiastic she is about ROK Social House and the concept. She let us know that around Scottsdale there aren’t too many authentic Korean restaurants. The goal is to meld not only the flavors but the lifestyle into the local scene. Laid back, enjoy your friends, music, good food and drinks. Want to stay a little, that’s perfectly ok with them, want to sit on the patio and bbq your own bulgogi, that works too.
Within a few minutes our table was covered in exquisite dishes, Executive Chef Andrew Nam is behind these creations and he’s also the force behind Stingray and Geisha A Go Go. Shown above are the flavorful Kalbi Korean Short ribs with a side of rice. We also dined on perfectly cooked Bulgogi marinated sliced rib eye, Kogi nachos topped with cheese, pickled jalapenos, kimchee pico de gallo and bugogi and tacos. Next time your in the mood to lounge, hit up the new ROK Social House and tell em we sent you!
