Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is delighted to announce that the brand is unveiling a new spirit partner across North America, Tequila Los Azulejos. A leader among ultra-premium tequilas, the award-winning brand will be featured at select bars and restaurants at more than 20 Fairmont hotels throughout the United States and Mexico by end of 2016, with additional expansion across Canada, Bermuda and Barbados in progress for 2017. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is Tequila Los Azulejos’ first and exclusive major hotel partnership.
Fairmont launched the partnership with a celebration at Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, hosted by Kevin Frid, chief operating officer, North & Central America, as well as the hotel’s Tequila Goddess Katie Schnurr and new Rum Princesa Dre Fountain. To commemorate, Fairmont Scottsdale Princess will offer the following cocktails through Nov. 15, 2016: Flaming Los Azulejos Coffee from La Hacienda by Richard Sandoval; Pineapple Smoke from Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak; Esta Noche from the Plaza Bar; and Guava Caipirita from Toro by Richard Sandoval.
“The foundation of Fairmont’s bar program is around using only quality ingredients to create well thought out, balanced cocktails,” said Brett Patterson, vice president, food & beverage, Americas. “From their hand-painted artisan bottles to the exceptional flavor, Tequila Los Azulejos shares Fairmont’s commitment to outstanding integrity, quality and craftsmanship. We are thrilled to welcome one of the highest regarded tequilas in the world as the newest addition to our esteemed collection of spirit partners.”
All of Los Azulejos’ famed tequilas start with 100 percent Blue-Weber agaves sown in the low-lands of Jalisco, near the town of Tequila, and grown to full maturity over 10 years, as compared to the 3 to 5 year life span of lower quality tequilas. Only the best agaves are hand-selected and cooked in traditional brick ovens, perfectly toasting and caramelizing the sugars of the plants, which are then crushed and pressed to extract the sweet agave nectar and placed in stainless steel holding tanks for 48 hours for fermentation. The product is then double-distilled, discarding the first and last 40 percent of the run, as compared to 20 percent for most brands, thus preserving only the “heart” of the run, for the purest alcohols.
Most Fairmont hotels will be serving the brand’s “masterpiece,” Tequila Los Azulejos Añejo, which is aged for approximately 30 months in fine French oak barrels, far beyond the industry standard of one year, giving it a golden yellow hue, rich complexities in flavor, and sophisticated smoothness and aroma. Tequila Los Azulejos Añejo is packaged in authentic clay bottles which are hand shaped, baked and painted by master artisans from the Puebla region of Mexico, in the traditional style of talavera pottery and talavera tiles, known as Azulejos, the company’s namesake.
Fairmont’s alignment with Tequila Los Azulejos builds on the brand’s continued commitment to shaping and sharing its cocktail culture, delivering world class spirit offerings such as Classics. Perfected., the innovative new global cocktail program Fairmont unveiled in late 2015. In winter 2016, the brand will partner with its Classics. Perfected. Fairmont Tastemakers to release a series of new packages, events and a selection of specially curated barware products at Fairmont Stores in North America.
