The Market Restaurant + Bar by Jennifer started out as a catering company and then in 2013, Jennifer Russo, the owner, relocated her catering operation to Gaslight Square on 36th Street and Indian School Road. In developing her new catering concept, Jennifer quickly realized the end result was that she would soon be, both a caterer and a restaurateur.
On January 16, 2014, The MARKET by Jennifer’s RESTAURANT+BAR was opened. Under the direction of long time friend Richard Fiero, (previously of Barrio Cafe), Jennifer and Richard developed a space that is both casual and elegant with a menu that incorporates locally grown, sourced, and crafted ingredients. On Leap Day this past month, we got to enjoy a special meal featuring many of the items she has on her new spring menu.
We started our journey with a bunch of appetizers and nosh boards from the charcuterie with assorted fine meats from CRAFT + CULTURE + violet mustard + shallots + garlic aioli. The Farmstead Cheese board from local Cheese Monger Lara Mulchay +assorted cheeses + crostini + house cracker + fruit compote +mixed nuts + tapenade. Grilled asparagus, burrata, prosciutto, frisee, leeks and Go lb. Salt South Pacific. Not pictured but equally enjoyed were the spring calamari and beef carpaccio!
Then we headed into an array of flavorful salads and entrees. Pictured above is the House made gnocchi with pork, mushrooms, spinach and tomato vodka coulis, one of my favorite dishes. We also had giant shrimp done up in different ways, a kale salad and a bright and refreshing heirloom tomato salad.
From there our tables were filled with salmon entrees and the above pictured prime beef grilled a delicate beef tenderloin + au gratin potatoes + herbed & butter baby vegetables + au poivre. Pictured below we had the perfectly cooked apple cider brined pork chop with Hayden Flour Mills polenta and St. Anthony’s Olive Oil.
As if we hadn’t indulged in enough amazing food, she prepared for us three desserts! My favorite was the flourless chocolate cake pictured below but we also had the deconstructed strawberry short cake and the Callebaut white chocolate mouse. What a night and what a spectacular meal, thank you Jennifer for hosting us and showing us your passion on the plate. We look forward to dining with you again and can’t wait to check out the brunch menu.
