There he is again, that coffee guy that populates my feed with the one thing I need each morning, caffeine! His Instagram is full of the most gorgeous photos of latte art, his trips all around doing coffee related things, like living on a coffee farm for a few weeks, going to different roasters in San Francisco, heading up to Northern AZ to consult and currently, his ventures in Seattle at the SCAA (specialty coffee association of America) convention. I know him as @thecoffeechop but most people probably call him Perry. I recently found him and his coffee cart at the Camelback Flower Shop and decided it was time to meet in person, like they use to in the olden days, before social media.
At first we sipped on some coffee tea and he told me about how he began working at a coffee shop (that shall remain unnamed) when he was younger. The experience left him with a not so positive feeling about ever working with coffee again. Good thing for us, he found himself in a coffee shop that changed his perspective. His love of good (good being the key word here) and quality coffee took a turn and the coffee seed was planted. From there he has educated himself, for the benefit of others, on how to get the best coffee into the consumer’s mouth. He’s now quite fluent in all kinds of coffee language, which means you’ll find him consulting local business’ on their coffee ventures and he can also pour you a shot like no other.
After pouring me a smooth shot of Augie’s espresso, we continued our talk on phoenix coffee and food vibes, what the meaning of life is and so much more. If you’re ever interested in picking Perry’s brain, you can find him online at thecoffeechop.com or in person from time to time. You can find that information out from following him on Instagram.
